Austrian Alpine Club Members Courses
Wild Path is happy to be a provider for summer skills courses in the Scottish Highlands. This page highlights the dates, courses and venues along with the booking process. The dates for 2022 are as follows. The ratios are instructor to client, we run the courses with a minimum of 1 participant on the course and are able to provide more instructors should the numbers exceed the ratios. These costs are at a special rate to AACUK members. We look forward to seeing you on the hill soon.
Skye scrambles - 25th to the 29th July - Ratio 1 instructor to 2 participants and will be based on the Isle Of Skye (with this there is the option to to do one or all of the days) £105 PPPD
Course aims
To provide participants with skills for movement and protection on steeper ground.
Members will wear harnesses and be taught how to select anchors and use direct
belays on graded scrambles (2 and 3)
To develop the skills and confidence to tackle harder and more committing routes
(grades 2/3). The use of and associated gear placement to safeguard short
pitches in ascent and descent will be key skills covered during these courses, with
members taking the lead.
Pre Requisites:
some grade 1 scrambling experience preferable but not essential. Hillwalking fitness is essential.
Introduction to Rock Climbing 20th and 21st of August - Ratio 1instructor to 6 participants and based in Fort William and Glencoe. £65 PPPD
Introduction to Rock Climbing 10th and 11th August - Ratio 1instructor to 6 participants and based in the Torridon area of the North West Highlands. £65 PPPD
Course Aims
Equipment choice, Outdoor climbing skills eg. jamming, Safe belaying, Movement techniques,
Skills to second a trad or sport climb
Prerequisites:
None required
Mountain Hill Skills 1st and 2nd of October - Ratio 1 Instructor to 8 participants and based in the Cairngorms national park. £50 PPPD
Course Aims:
Walking Skills – pace, nutrition, movement
Navigation Skills – including using basic features and symbols, using a compass,
navigation strategies and electronic devices
Weather – how it affects the hills and your day out
Clothing and Equipment – how being suitably dressed and equipped
Environment – how to minimise your impact on the hill
Hazards and Emergency Procedures
Pre- Requisites: Good hillwalking fitness
